The use of the word "Pro" when advertising tells me 3 things:-

1) they are trying to convince people that they are not as bad as they inevitably are,

2) They are ones most likely to scam/grief/fail and accuse others of messing up the run (not in any particular order).

3) That they are the ones I avoid at all cost, even if I want to sit on my ass eating twinkies instead (see #9).

"pro" runners are people who confuse the words "expert" and "pro". the funny part is that this confusion turns their would-be-false advertisement into a statement of the fact that they expect to receive payment for their services. lul. the world is funny when you're not intent on finding reasons to hate people (see: everyone in this thread)

professional=work for money, so yes, if you ay them they are pro runners.
/endsarcasm.

i've gotten 17 mill+ experience from doing CoF runs, so i could say "pro runner"but i dont.

So, i think it just makes people sound really stupid and full of them selves

btw:
Pro Runners = [RR] Runners Of the Rose (formally the running rangers). they are frickin awesome.

You don't need runners. Just buy your stuff in boreal station.

Granted saying "pro" and "100% success rate" is abused by some less experienced. But I sometimes say i'm a "pro" Yet, I havn't died in hundreds of runs through Kryta/Ascalon running noobs, and people from other campaigns. Yes mobs in either will be hard pressed to really kill, they still can especially in more western and southern areas of Kryta.

I find it strange that so many people distrust runners. Yes there are shady noob ones, but there are also people who scam runners, and flee at the end of runs.

I also find it strange that people around here think they should not pay runners, that it should be a free service, etc. Taxis charge. Bus, and train fare. Airline fare, too. Should they provide free service? Of course not. Running can be hard work, and should be paid equally.

What I cant stand, and this is coming from someone who does run folks. Is compition in the same district. If someone is advertising their services, and was in that district before you, go to another district. Don't come in, and under-charging the run to get more customers. That's just rude. Some of us do do this as a service, and would like to make money off the time invested as some of these runs are not easy, nor are some of these runs quick. There is time, and energy invested to learn routes, and spawn points/mob positions. Building builds that counter the mobs in the area.

Finally, I would like to ask those of you who don't like people who use words to describe their service: How else does one get noticed I dare ask? Building rep in a MMO as large as this one is difficult, and a long process. You have to run people that know people so to speak. But they are few, and far between. What seperates the good from the bad besides the obvious (dying in-route, getting lost, etc)? When either of those things happen to me, I drop charges. Period.

I think a lot of people have set a unrealistic bar of perfection with some people. Demand such a high level of service, it becomes hard for even some of the best runners to acheive. Yes I run, and have been ran. I have been ran by good players, and bad players. And sometimes the bad runners advertise the same as the good ones.

A pro runner (Such as myself) is someone who plays the ORIGINAL running class, and will reach the req'd destination without fail. Any of the Sin runners or Derv runners are just fail, there is no challenge in that, your almost invincable, where as a Warrior, you have to dodge and Kite and think about skill recharge and stacking.

The word "pro" is short for "profession." The only "professional" game players are those who get paid and make a living (in real life) doing it.

In GW, maybe the $100k tournament winners could be considered "pro." Other than them, I hate saying it, but the only real "pros" are the ones selling in-game gold for real money.

On a more archaic note, a profession used to refer to a higher calling requiring a higher education - i.e. the practice of medicine or law, or joining the clergy. From that perspective, there is no such thing as a "pro" video game player in any capacity.

IMHO anyone calling himself or herself a "pro" runner is just demonstrating ignorance of and disregard for what "pro" actually means.

2 of the 8 definitions for "professional" from dictionary.com

5. following as a business an occupation ordinarily engaged in as a pastime: a professional golfer

6. making a business or constant practice of something not properly to be regarded as a business: “A salesman,” he said, “is a professional optimist.”

running from town to town these days isn't as hard. Vow of silent dervs, perma sins have made almost anyone pro as long as you know the direction and spawns.

Mission/dungeon runners are more skillful and can bring good cash. Especially running the more difficult areas.

The term pro to me would mean someone who does running all the time and can gaurantee success 99% of the time and has the confidence if they fail its free run.

xD

Wow thanks for all the replies.

In the end, people should have an idea of whether you're pro or not based on your performance. Meaning if you die 5 times and claim to be pro/expert/%100, a paper bag shall go over your head xD

And derv running is awesome >.>

But i have alot of respect for Warrior runners because yes it is very hard.

xD

I giggle when someone calls themselves a "pro." Maybe it's just my inability to take 99.9% of the gaming population seriously when I know they either talk like a 12 year old, or are actually 12 year olds. Not to mention the accompanying attitudes of the runners are usually childish, incompetent or rage-y. Often the best runners I've had are just humble, literate people.

"pro running 2 droks. im so 1337 ur not"
/dies sadly.

Ya i find that too. I find if you have any grammar sense you are one step of the competition, because it shows you're not completely stupid xD

The only time i'm not really literate is while i am actually running, and trying to type at the same time. I can't do it -_-

I think "experienced runner" would be more likely to get my attention. If I see pro I sort of laugh to myself.

Malice is right. Back in the day you actually needed to be somewhat skilled to do runs, especially droks and the southern shiverpeaks. Now its a complete joke.

Running droks back in the day on a ranger was so much fun xD

read a dictionary
And reading the definitions you posted = what I said: you are a "professional" video gamer if you make it your real life occupation or business. Thank you for agreeing with me.
